Dr. Matsuura was inspired to pursue medicine by his mother, who cared for the health her community. He walks each patient through non-surgical and state-of-the-art surgical options for conditions in arthritis, broken bones, fractures and sprains to tendonitis, bursitis, nerve injuries, overuse injuries, work-related injuries, and sports injuries. Trained as a Sports Medicine Specialist, Dr. Matsuura specializes in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine. Dr. Matsuura is sensitive to the treatment of the whole person, especially war veterans—serving as Hawaii's State Surgeon from 2006-2012 and Commander of the Medical Detachment. As Colonel in the Hawaii Army National Guard, he served across four deployments with the U.S. Army's state-of-the-art surgical teams treating orthopedic trauma and war wounds for American service men and women.Dr. Matsuura completed his medical degree at UC Irvine Medical School, Irvine, CA (1981-1985) and is certified with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. His memberships include the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons, the Hawaii Medical Association, the Western Orthopedic Association, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America, among others.
