About

Kia ora and welcome to winter! Taupo has been enjoying the sight of snow settling on the mountains and keeping our fires stoked, with the temperatures dropping below -5°C of late. Nevertheless, Taupo Bungy has still had plenty of brave people choose to throw themselves from our platform, even if they have to wait for the fog to lift from the river. We have continued our record breaking streak, with February, April and May being the busiest this year than ever before. The record for having the best year ever is also clearly within our sights again, with jumper numbers exceeding all previous years, so far.Totally astounding!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Biggest LoserIn March, Taupo Bungy was host to the popular, real-life television programme ‘The Biggest Loser – Australia”.With the final six contestants, the episode came to Taupo. Their challenge involved biking from Aratiatia Dam, running the riverside track between Huka Falls and Spa Park, finishing at Taupo Bungy. Here they had to make a decision – either do a bungy jump, or be given a time penalty of 30 minutes. Make sure you watch the upcoming show to see who chose to do the bungy, and also to see the amazing, panoramic shots of our beautiful bungy site. You could also check out the highlights for the 10th and 12th of April 2009 through www.thebiggestloser.com.au .--------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Green CornerAs mentioned in the last newsletter, we have been given the go-ahead by the Taupo District Council, for our re-vegetation project. Work has been started on the eradication of a noxious plant named ‘Buddleia’. We will keep you posted. The annual ‘Oxfam Trailwalker’ was held in Taupo on the 4th April this year. The Taupo Bungy ‘Green Team’ volunteered their services to help this great cause. Upon registration, all teams and their support crew, were educated on how to dispose of their recycling and rubbish throughout the event. Participants were also shown how the innovative bokashi composting system works and given their competitor packs filled with discounts, information and the all important maps!KEEPING IT GREEN…NEW STAFFThe staff at Taupo Bungy would like to give a big, warm welcome to the latest suckers to join our crew – Scott and Rachel. We are also lucky enough to have a new Marketing Manager, Vanessa who has ambitions to rule the bungy world! Check out the staff profiles on our website to find out more about these wild cats. We bid a fond farewell to our jump master Courtney, who has moved to Canada to work at the Nanaimo Bungy, Vancouver Island. We wish him all the best and hope they can appreciate all of his crazy antics over there!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Next month, you can enjoy getting some ‘couples therapy’ for only $180. This applies to every tandem jump, but on
